Your Bronco PB isn’t impossible. Doing it alone is.

YourHPU gives every amateur player and ref the coaching team the pros get. A Head Coach, Strength, Conditioning, Nutrition and Mindset, briefed on your whole life, not just your last workout.

Read this if you’ve got a Bronco between now and March, and you’re not sure your summer of training is the right training.

Rory running on a grass field in summer

Hamstring tight on Sunday, you said. Rep 4 is off the Bronco set today.

STRENGTH COACH

From the coaching team

It’s February. You’re on the try line.

There are twenty others lined up beside you, cones out at 20, 40 and 60, and someone you’d rather impress is holding a stopwatch.

You did the work. Or you think you did. You found a Bronco program in November. You asked ChatGPT to adjust it in December, then again in January when work blew up and you missed a week, and both times you had to explain your whole life from scratch. Your watch said you were “productive.” It didn’t know you’d played eighty minutes on Saturday.

Then the whistle goes. Rep one feels fine. By rep three your legs are gone and your turns are getting wider. By rep five you’re just hoping nobody’s writing anything down.

You weren’t short on effort. You were short on a team.

The pros don’t train harder than you. They train with people who know them: a head coach who plans the season backwards from test day, a conditioning coach who paces the running off their numbers, a strength coach who protects the knee that’s been grumbly since 2019, a nutritionist who knows it’s a game week, and someone in their corner for the mental side. And every one of those people knows what the others said.

Amateurs give everything for their sport. You turn up after work, you train in the dark, you pay your subs. You deserve that kind of support too, not a template and a guess.

So we built it. This page explains how it works, and how to join the beta: free until 10 March 2027.

The YourHPU coaching team

The real opponent

You’ve done the research. You’re still guessing.

It isn’t effort holding your time up. It’s three things that each see one slice of you and none of the rest.

The cookie-cutter program

Twelve weeks, written for nobody in particular. It doesn’t know you’ve got a game Saturday, a sick kid on Tuesday, or a test on 7 March, not “some time in February.”

WHAT IT COSTS YOUYou peak at the wrong time, or not at all.

The chatbot that forgets

Every new chat starts from zero. You re-type your history, your niggles and your goal, and the advice quietly drifts further from the plan you started with.

WHAT IT COSTS YOUHours re-explaining, and a plan that changes every time you ask.

The watch on your wrist

Great at counting. It sees your heart rate and sleep, but it doesn’t know you’re reffing a semi this weekend or that your calf was tight on Thursday.

WHAT IT COSTS YOUNumbers without decisions. You still have to guess what to do with them.

On the clock

“My Bronco time isn’t dropping, and my plan doesn’t account for my work, my body or my games.”

In your head

“I’m second-guessing everything. I’m sick of re-explaining myself, and scared of turning up to preseason and getting exposed.”

What’s not right

“Amateurs give everything for their sport. They deserve the support the pros get, not a template and a guess.”

Why your time isn’t dropping

The Bronco isn’t a run. It’s five problems at once.

Bronco shuttles: 20, 40 and 60 metres out and back, five times 020m40m60m
×5 continuous. 1,200m. 25 changes of direction.

To take real time off, five things have to improve together, and every one of them pulls on the same body in the same week.

  • The engineYour aerobic speed. The biggest lever, and the slowest to build.
  • The turnsTwenty-five of them. Sloppy turns leak seconds every rep.
  • The legsStrength that survives running, games and old knocks.
  • The fuelFood that powers the work and repairs you after it, matched to what your goal needs that week.
  • The headWhen the burn hits on rep four, you’ve already been there. We rehearse it before test day, so it feels familiar, not frightening.

A program can’t see how they interact. A chatbot forgets. A watch sees half of it. The pros solve this with a team that talks every day. That’s the whole idea behind YourHPU: five specialists, sharing one picture of you.

WHAT ONE WEEK LOOKS LIKEEVERY COACH, SAME PICTURE
Mon
  1. YOU

    Hamstring’s tight after Sunday touch.

  2. STRENGTH

Swapping RDLs for bridges this week. Nothing heavy through the hamstring till it settles.

  3. CONDITIONING

Saw that. Rep 4 is off Wednesday’s Bronco set, and we drill turns at 80% instead.

Wed
  1. YOU

Huge work week. Slept about five hours.

  2. HEAD COACH

Hard session moves to Saturday morning. Thursday becomes an easy 30 minutes. The block still lands on 7 March.

Thu
  1. YOU

Feeling flat. Can’t be bothered tonight.

  2. MINDSET

Flat weeks happen. Tonight, just commit to the first ten minutes. Remember, on nights like this you’ve told us you finished it.

Fri
  1. NUTRITION

You’ve got the hard session tomorrow now, not a game. Carbs up tonight, and a proper breakfast before you go.

  2. YOU

    Hamstring feels normal again.

  3. STRENGTH

Good. RDLs back next week at lighter load.

Sun
  1. HEAD COACH

Week done. Two sessions moved, nothing lost. You said it once, on Monday.

Your coaching team

Five specialists. One picture of you.

The pros don’t get one coach. They get a staff who talk to each other. Now you do too.

HEAD COACH

Runs the plan

Periodises your preseason to peak on test day and keeps every coach on the same page.

Big work week, you said. Hard session moves to Saturday.

CONDITIONING

Builds the engine

Intervals, shuttles and turns paced off your own numbers, not a template.

Your turns are leaking time. Today we drill the 60m turn.

STRENGTH

Keeps you on the park

Gym work that fits around your running and protects the knocks you’ve already got.

Knee still grumpy? Swapping lunges for split squats.

NUTRITION

Fuels the work

Fuel for the hard sessions and the recovery after them, matched to what your goal needs that week.

Big Bronco set tomorrow. Carbs up tonight, protein straight after.

MINDSET

Keeps your head in it

Nerves, flat weeks and test-day pressure. Keeps you on the plan when motivation runs out.

Rep four is where it gets hard. We’ve rehearsed that moment.

How it works

Tell us once. Then train.

1

Tell us once.

A five-minute onboarding covers your current Bronco, test date, training history, work and family load, and old knocks. You never re-explain.

2

Get your coaching team.

Ten minutes later, your Head Coach, Strength, Conditioning, Nutrition and Mindset coaches have built one periodised plan to peak on test day, waiting in your dashboard.

3

Train, check in, adapt.

Log sessions and message your coaches right in the app. Flag a bad week or a niggle, and the whole team adjusts together.

BUILD MY PLAN FROM THESE NUMBERS
Rory smiling in his club jersey

5:17 → 4:30. 47 seconds. March 7.

Built in the chase

“I’m Rory. I’m chasing 47 seconds off my Bronco by March 7, with this exact team.”

I built YourHPU because I’m the athlete it’s for. Every summer I’d fly out of the blocks, get injured, and turn up to the test undercooked. In between, it was YouTube videos, physio consults and chatbot queries, endlessly re-explaining myself to people and tools that never saw the whole picture.

  • Former player, now a referee. Personal training background and a BSc in Anatomy.
  • Seven years in software, watching where AI genuinely helps and where it just adds noise.
  • Training on the same team you’ll get, with my numbers posted here, good weeks and bad.

Who this is for

For the amateur who trains like a pro.

Start if

  • You’ve got a Bronco, or a similar preseason fitness test, coming before the season starts.
  • You’ll train three or more times a week, around work and family.
  • You want to know why every session is in your plan.
  • You’ll be honest about bad weeks and niggles, so your team can adjust.

Don’t start if

  • You want a printable twelve-week PDF and to be left alone.
  • You want to find 47 seconds in three weeks. Real gains take a summer, not a sprint.
  • You’ll change the plan every time a new YouTube video drops.
  • You want someone to tell you it’s fine to skip the hard week.

Players

Make the squad. Keep your spot.

Referees

Pass with room to spare. Keep the appointments.

Touch and club

Still got it? Prove it. A plan that works with the body you’ve got.

Don’t spend another summer guessing, only to get found out on the first Bronco. Or worse, break down in week three and watch the season from the sideline.

Come test day

Be the one they ask: “What have you been doing this summer?”

  1. A new Bronco PB on test day.
  2. Your name on the team sheet, or the appointments you trained for.
  3. Through preseason without breaking down, and on the park all season.
  4. No more second-guessing. You know why every session is in your plan.
  5. Never start from scratch again. Next season, next test, next goal, your team already knows you.

Questions

Before you start

Isn’t this just ChatGPT with a different logo?

No. A general chatbot forgets you between conversations and has no plan it’s working toward. Your YourHPU coaches share one record of you, work backwards from your test date, and check each other’s prescriptions. You tell us once, and the whole team runs with it.

Do I need a watch or a fitness tracker?

No. If you have one, share your numbers and the team will use them. If you don’t, logging how sessions felt is enough to adjust your plan.

I’m a referee, not a player. Is it for me?

Yes. Rory played before he picked up the whistle. Your plan is built around your appointments and grading, not a team’s game schedule.

I’m not 25 any more. Will this break me?

Your plan is built around your body, including the knocks you’ve already got. Strength work protects you, and the team pulls load back when you flag a niggle. Staying on the park is part of the goal, at any age.

What does the Mindset Coach actually do?

Keeps you training when motivation dips, helps you handle test-day nerves, and rehearses the hard reps before you run them. It’s performance coaching, not therapy; if something bigger is going on, it’ll point you to real support.

What if I get injured?

We adjust around it and tell you when it’s time to see a physio. We’re a coaching team, not medical care.

How much time does it take each week?

Three or more sessions a week, built around your work and family load. Checking in takes less than a minute: log the session, flag anything that’s off, and your team handles the rest.

Who can join the beta?

Anyone with an invite code. Use it on the sign-up page. No code? Email rory@yourhpu.com.

What happens on 10 March 2027?

The beta ends. We’ll email you 30 days and 7 days before. Choose a plan to keep your team, or don’t: your plan, history and data stay, read-only. Nothing is charged unless you choose a plan.

What happens after my test?

Your team moves you onto an in-season plan that keeps your engine up around games and appointments. When you’re ready, pick your next goal and they’ll plan backwards from that.
